Is silicone safe?
In a word, yes. (In five words, yes yes yes yes yes). Silicone is non-toxic, BPA-free, and proven safe for food preparation by the FDA.
Can I use silicone in the microwave?
You sure can! You can also use it in the freezer, the oven, in boiling water, and in the refrigerator. Go ahead, stick it in the crisper. We dare you.
How do I clean silicone?
Cleaning silicone is a breeze (especially if you’re used to cleaning squirming children). You can clean your silicone products in the dishwasher, or hand wash them with soapy water. We don’t recommend using abrasive detergents or scouring pads, though—this can damage the silicone.
How long will my silicone product last?
Pretty much as long as you want it to. Unless you find a tear or rip (which is very rare, and would only occur after years of use) your silicone bag or store-it system is perfectly safe for use.
Will it stink?
No way! Silicone is naturally odorless. And since food and microbes don’t stick to it, it’s easily sterilized with a simple run through the dishwasher!
Will silicone melt?
Silicone is resistant to extremely high heat—up to 500°F. So, unless your kitchen is located on the surface of the sun, your silicone product will be perfectly fine at even the highest temperatures of your oven.
What other silicone products are there?
